Introduction to the Life of David
God has made it very clear that He wants us to know a lot about the life of David. David is mentioned more often in Scripture than any other person (except for God Himself) – more often than Adam, Isaiah, Noah, Elijah, Paul, and Abraham all combined. Sixty eight chapters of God's Word are devoted to the David's life. He is the standard for godliness in the Old Testament for all people, and each of the kings who came after him were measured in God's eyes by how they compared to David.. Understanding his life is the key to understanding the Psalms and most of messianic prophecy. God called David a man after His own heart. From David we learn something we do not even learn from Jesus' example: how a man after God's own heart responds to his own sin. It is crucially important that we know about the life of this man.
