Fear of Man

Are you a people pleaser? Do you find yourself fishing for compliments when you talk with people? Do you embellish your stories or find ways to introduce your accomplishments into conversations? Do you daydream about people being impressed with you? Do you work harder when your boss is watching? Do you worry and fret about what people think of you? Do you avoid conflicts rather than trying to solve them? Do you hate being rebuked or corrected? Have you ever avoided closeness in a relationship out of fear of getting hurt?
How do you see people? Are they gas pumps – designed to fill you up? Do you see people as your ticket to acceptance and love (or even fame)? Do you see people as priests who have the power to make you feel clean – so if they approve of you then you are OK? Or do you see people as dictators, whose word and opinion is law for you?
All of those are symptoms of fear of man. This series examines the causes of people-pleasing and contrasts it with healthy fear of God as seen in the biblical comparison between David and Saul in 1 Samuel 18.
